This Month’s Hottest Hotels

Hotel Urso

Opened last August, Madrid’s first five-star boutique hotel occupies a 1913 paper factory and retains many of the neoclassical building’s original design trappings, such as rich oak paneling, stained glass windows and an azulejo-tile-lined facade. Inside, the contemporary decor by designer Antonio Obrador feels like a cross between a Victorian gentleman’s club (wingback chairs, leather-bound books) and a Japanese ryokan (potted bamboo, screens printed with cranes). The serenity is palpable, especially in the on-site URSO Spa by Natura Bissé, which features a hammam (Turkish bath) and an impossibly chic hydrotherapy pool.

We arrived in Pasadena after a cruise across the Pacific on the Queen Elizabeth.  We had found the DusitD2 Constance by chance on the net before we left New Zealand.

What a wonderful hotel!  Beautiful decor and very a comfortable room combined with a warm and welcoming staff meant that out stay there was most memorable.

This is the perfect base to visit the two amazing art galleries and gardens (the Norton Simon and the Huntington).

    We rate it highly
