On Zürich Style

Author Sara Lieberman Photography Franco P. Tettamanti

wearinFor Regine Schoeller—a native of Germany who has been living in Zürich for 11 years—a lifelong love of fashion began with bed sheets and a sewing machine. The 36-year-old fashion consultant for Swiss luxury line Akris Puntol began turning scraps into blouses at age 12. “I said, ‘One day, I want to see something I created in Vogue,’” she recalls. Thanks to her time as a pattern-maker in the haute couture department of Escada and her current work at Akris, Schoeller’s childhood dream is a reality. While her work has appeared in plenty of print glossies, Schoeller might be more well known for her popular fashion blog Gine, which catalogs her simple, luxurious ensembles. Here, she breaks down Zürich style.

What’s the key to dressing in Zürich?
A great watch is very important. The “statement bag” of Zürich is a great watch.

Where do you shop?
There are a few really nice boutiques and concept stores like Vestibule, which carries brands like Chloé, Phillip Lim and J Brand jeans. There’s also AP&Co. It’s very rare to find great boutiques for men, so this one is unique.

What’s one item or accessory you couldn’t live without?
There’s no other place that I need my sunglasses more than Zürich! If you can’t afford an IWC Schaffhausen watch, then you need a huge pair of sunglasses.

Tell us about today’s look.
I really love contrasting soft femininity and menswear-inspired coolness, so I chose this Chloé Maglia Milano cape and stiletto boots from Tabitha Simmons. I’m wearing both with jeans from Acne and a Phillip Lim bucket bag. The sunglasses are Prada.
