The Dell XPs 12 flips its lid

Dell’s entry into the hybrid computer arena also offers the coveted Windows 8, but the real focus of its XPs 12 Ultrabooks is on a question dear to the hearts of those considering the switch to hybrid: How long before all that flipping breaks something? Dell’s answer appears to be a resounding “Never!” The base and lid are carbon fiber, the screen is bonded Corning Gorilla Glass, and the edges of the flip frame are machined to a perfect fit. Plus, the XPs 12 offers a 160-degree viewing angle, so you’ll spend less time wiggling it around to make sure all your friends can see what you’re watching. Just don’t throw it off a roof or anything. This isn’t “Mythbusters.” $1,200-$1,700 / dell.com
