On the Waterfront

These lakeside lodges will have you pining for the good old days

La Réserve’s launch zips into town

WHEN THE GENTLE winds blow down from the Swiss Alps, across the western, petit lac end of Lake Geneva, and whistle through the pines that stand guard over La Réserve Genève Hotel and Spa, they’re playing the peaceful soundtrack of summer. La Réserve is the sort of place James Bond might go to recuperate after a particularly taxing mission: a contemporary five-star resort with flashes of classic beauty and a 21,000-square-foot spa that offers the best back rub this side of the Atlantic. Laid out by superstar architect Jacques Garcia — who also designed the interiors of Le Royal Monceau and Hôtel Costes in Paris — La Réserve’s 85 rooms and 17 suites are stuffed with leather club chairs, ornate wall tapestries and animal-print carpeting, all of which offer a hint of a high-end African safari. The setting is a 10-acre nature preserve with the aforementioned pines, a sprawling pool and a dock where you can find a ride to the nearby town center. www.lareserve.ch
